Breaking response time into the parts you can fix
A single response-time number tells you there is a problem and nothing about where it is.
Each segment has a different owner and a different intervention. Measuring them separately is what makes improvement possible rather than aspirational.
- Time from call to dispatch, which is a control-room and information problem.
- Time from dispatch to vehicle moving, which is a crew readiness problem.
- Time from moving to scene, which is routing and traffic.
- Time at scene and time to hospital, which is clinical and handover.
