An excursion you cannot locate is not a record
Detecting that a temperature limit was breached is the easy part. The useful record says when, for how long, and where the vehicle was at the time.
That is what determines whether the excursion happened in your custody or at a consignee’s dock, and whether the affected consignment is the whole load or one pallet near the doors.
Continuous logging tied to position is the difference between a defensible position and an assumption. The mechanics are the same as in cold chain monitoring, held to a tighter standard.
