Traffic challans are increasingly issued from cameras, so you may not know one exists until you check. Fortunately you can look up and pay any pending challan online in a few minutes.

How to check your e-challan status

1. Go to the official portal at echallan.parivahan.gov.in and open Check Challan Status.

2. Search by vehicle registration number, driving licence number or challan number, then enter the captcha.

3. Any pending or paid challans against the vehicle or licence are listed.

You can also check challans inside the mParivahan app.

How to pay a challan online

Select the pending challan and choose to pay online. Payment is completed through the standard payment gateway, and the status updates to paid once the transaction is confirmed.

Keep the receipt, since it is your proof that the challan is cleared.

How to dispute a wrong challan

If a challan looks incorrect, you can raise a grievance on the e-challan portal or contest it in the traffic court or a Lok Adalat, where many challans are settled.

Have your evidence ready, such as photographs or documents that support your case.
